The Abhijit Kadam Memorial Foundation (AKMF) is established in the memory of Abhijit Kadam, son of Dr. Patangrao Kadam, founder, Bharati Vidyapeeth,. The foundation engages in a variety of non-profit activities including social work and promotion of sports.
The AKMF has been hosting the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Tournament for the last six years, in which a large number of teams from Maharashtra and other states participate.
Last year, the tournament saw participation from Second Division I-League teams. Over the past years, reputed teams like Calcutta football giants Mohun Bagan, Mumbai FC, Vasco Football Club from Goa have vied for top honours.
Associated with the club and among its well-wishers are former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshkukh, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil and Indian Olympic Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, MP Besides these eminent personalities, leading sportspersons, industrialists, journalists, IAS and IPS officers, as well as leading personalities from the film and theatre fraternity have expressed their support.
